Our Story
Our Journey
Far West Federal helps support our shareholders with roots
in Chignik Bay, Alaska as the federal contracting business of
Far West Inc.
The people of Chignik Bay have occupied the lands in and around the bay for over 10,000 years. Chignik Bay is located on the southern Alaska Peninsula, known for its remoteness, volcanic activity, and an abundance of salmon and sea life. The people of the region are descendants of the Aleut and Alutiiq/Sugpiaq first people, Russian fur traders, and Scandinavian fishermen. The huge winds arising from the coastal storms at Chignik Bay inspired the Alutiiq people who lived there to name the village “Cirniq”, meaning “big wind” in the Alutiiq language.
Today, Far West Inc. has over 575 Alaska Native and Native descendant shareholders, some living in their traditional home of Chignik Bay, with others living in Alaska, the greater United States, and across the world.
